Longboard Fin Keeps Sliding Around !

Hi Guys

Really need some help on this one

My longboard fin keeps sliding around in the fin box. The screw goes in OK and connects with the washer underneath, but no matter how much i tighten it it does not keep the fin in place. It gets to a point where the screw cannot be tightened anymore but the fin still won't stay in one position.

recently i bought some new screws/washers from ebay but its the same story - fin doesn't stay in one place

its annoying the heck outta me !

any advice on what is going wrong ?

Try packing the base of the fin out with something solid so it fits in the fin box tightly. I use slices of a beer or soda can, wrapped around the base of the fin - works great and should sort it out for you.

The nut and bolt are tightening on the fin, they are not grabbing the box. You will need to make the depth of the fin where the nut goes through less, so when tightened the nut is able to be drawn up and grab the finbox channel and not the bottom of the fin 8)

Sand the little sticky out bit - where the little bolt goes through - from the underside - BUT only if this bolt hole bit sits proud in the fin box.

I put fin in once and due to it sitting proud of the fin box it didn't let the washer grab the fin box channel properly and it slid about a bit.

Another possibility is this fin bolt sticky out bit just so happens to be exactly the same depth as the washer channel so even though the top bolt is tight, it has only tightened the washer onto the fin, because due to the equal depth the washer hasn’t actually grabbed the fin box channel, it is simply ‘floating’ in the fin box groove whilst being tight on the fin ! = sand it thinner.

Post up if you need more help !

(PS – the soda can might cut you if is comes away in the surf !)
