I am looking to shape my first surfboard, but do not really know where to start. If anyone can help with letting me know all the tools I would need to have, actual items for the board itself, any instructional sites/video/books I would appreciate it.
What does it typically cost to get into this

I have a file from Homeblown detailing the steps. Its a Word Doc, but for some reason, I cant upload here (any help, greatly appreciated). If you want this, PM me with your email address and I will forward to you. . I bought most of the gear from them, and they were really easy to speak to. Costs was about £140 all in, including resin brushes, squeedgees etc.

Great fun, and nothing beats surfing your own custom built board.

except maybe a nice Wooden Board!!

There is a lot of general information on shaping surfboards, but not a lot of detailed information. I posted about asking how different shapes change the board. To just build one board, you don't need too much. To make a whole bunch of great boards, you need professional equipment.

For just one board, to build at home, you only need a surfboard blank, fiberglass cloth, fiberglass resin, plastic spreader, 6-12 small brushes, disposable gloves, a sturdy table, scissors, razor blade, ruler, pens, sandpaper, sanding tool, hand saw, 90 degree angle, angle measure.

Some of that you can skip if it is okay to have some flaws. First you decide what shape you want. Draw it out. Then, you get the blank closest to it. Cut it out close. Then sand it to the shape you want. Then you lay the cloth down, cut the cloth. Then you laminate it. Then you hot coat it. Then you sand it smooth. Depending on what equipment you buy, you either add the fins before or after glassing, and the same with the leash plug. I've seen some tutorials on the web. Search for it and you will find some too.

Don't expect your first board to come out like the one you can buy in the store!

Turtle, that is a big long board, is it a 12 footer? You made it yourself. That last one looks like it has a 3" sharp nose like a row boat. Is that before shaping the nose or is there a reason for it? Are those out of solid wood? Can you post some pics of the side to see the rocker? How thick balsa wood did you use and is it one piece or did you glue them together? How heavy is that 12 footer, and is it polyester or epoxy?
