Board on roof bars with roof box

Hi, I'm new here and new to surfing and hoped someone here could answer my question.

I've just bought a longboard to learn on and, because of the Easter traffic and the hassle of getting the car near the shop, I carried it back to the house where we often stay and is next to the beach. Good job too, in all the excitement of the whole deal, I didn't figure on trying to fit the board to the roof bars as we also have a roofbox fitted to carry four wetsuits, boots and bodyboards towels etc. (the boot of the car is used for other stuff when we're away for the week-end so it's out of the question).

Is it possible to strap the board on its edge alongside the box or will this just damage the board? Would it be safe with a cross wind etc? Has anyone else got around this problem or know of a solution?

I look forward to any suggestions.......please !

Cheers

Hi,

I think you may damage your board if you lean it on its side. Also, you would risk it getting blown loose. What does your roof rack look like? Maybe then I can come up with some creative ideas.

In the end up I took the roof box off and mounted the board flat. I had a good idea that it was too risky to travel with it on its edge but had to ask.

I've managed to get all the wetsuits, bodyboards etc into the boot so we should be good to go.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Cheers.
