Help Purchasing New Fins Please

Postby Supafly » Mon Apr 13, 2009 6:43 am

Hey guys,

This is my first post and I was just wondering if any of you could help me out with my next set of fins. I have been surfing for about a year now and am plodding along very nicely, I have been looking through the FCS range of fins and turns out the fins I have been learning on are small (for people 60kg and I am 90kg) does the size of the fins make that much of a difference, would I find it easier if I went to say the "large" sized fins?

I have a 6'6" board, currently with the TC White-Line fins (I am 6'3" and 90kg) any help would be much appreciated.

go to a local surf shop and see when they'll be demoing fins next. use fcs's fin selector guide on their website, figure out what would suit your style/size/surf/board, and see if you can try em out

I'm 200lbs and ride a 6'5", so we are about the same.

After a lot of trial and error, my favorite fins are the GMB fins, the ones that come with LOST surfboards. I use them in almost all my boards.

My second choice are the FG5's, mainly because they are made from light weight epoxy instead of fiberglass. They are about the same size as an M5 fin, standard size, but you'd be suprised how loosing the weight will liven the board and still not feel squirley.

There are my choices after trial and error, thought I'd pass it on since we seem to be riding the same stick.

Cheers teacher, that is a great help actually. Gives me a platform from where to start looking and especially as we are roughly the same. I will also see if my local surf shop does the demo'ing thing so i can give your recommendations a go

Once again cheers bro

Hey teach, i was just looking at the FG5's on the FCS website and yea they have pretty much exactly the same size as the M5 fin. One question i have about them is do you know if the flex in the FG5's tip is similar to the M5?

ps. sorry for the double post (forgot about the edit button)
