Future fin boxes are 10 times stronger than FCS plugs and no they are not interchangeable.

future are much stronger but thats not reason enough. having tried both fin set-ups quite activerly i ended up prefering the future fin templates. However i think fcs is more versatile and has a larger fin collection. But for me i found the fins that work best and that is future vector 2

Hard call.

FCS is more standard and they do have some good fins.

But many experienced surfers find a fin that works better for them in Futures.

And no it's not just because I know the local Futures importer/wholesaler. :D I use both in my boards.

It probably matters more when you are building boards as opposed to buying them. Either is great in poly boards, if you find the right fin. In compsand style boards with high flex FCS can be more desirabe because they can be installed so that they decreases the bond between bottom and deck. Bonding bottom and deck kills flex.

Everything that has been said above about future fins is true...but at the same time dont forget the main park of FCS - they are widely avaliable and there is a huge range. Its rare that most people change fins that much, and even rarer for damage to a fin, but if the worst happens - at least with FCS you're never too far from a new fin.

 I bust mine all the time

Futures for me - you can get hold of them for a fraction of the cost of FCS fins.

Yea ive snapped prolly around 4 fins (2fcs &2 future funny enough) and blown out three fin boxes. 1 future fin box and 2 fcs ones. the fcs plugs just popped out without much force comparativerly the future box took a beating full speed into a rock to rip it out even then it didnt blow up too much. The downside is that the fcs was an easy repair but the future took a bit more tlc to get it right.

Still thats pretty good going considering im fond of surfing reefs at ultra low tide
