The center of the board near the stringer has a decent sized ding and the areas around that ding is soft. Should I sand around the soft layer, cut it out, and apply resin to act as a glue substitute in order for fiberglass to re-stick to the foam?

A new type of ding which I do not understand how to fix, and I would like to use this board again since procrastination has been getting the best of me.

Sounds about right but a photo of the ding would be good too.

It doesn't seem to shrink on photobucket, but that is the soft spot. It seems to be buckling at its rails as well.

Ok it looks like the board has seen some good use. So if i was you i'd stick with the original suggestions but not spend too much energy on it. Just remove the wax around the area do some sanding and whack some glass over it and get back on it.
I fixed a board recently that had 2 huge knee shaped pressure dings on it either side of the rail. As it would all bee covered in wax again i just sanded then laid 3 layers of 6 oz cloth over the area giving a good overlap. Not pretty but good and strong. Quick sand and your ready to go.

That boards days are numbered structurally..

haha I think my board is going to break in half one of these days... When preforming a duck dive .
