I need to get a new wetsuit and am considering getting a triathlon wetsuit since I also run triathlons. Has anyone used one of these for surfing? Or is it too restrictive?

I'm gonna do the opposite! I'll be doing some open water tri's next year and intend using my surfing wettie for the swim part. I'll use the surfing wetsuit a lot more than a tri suit so it makes sense. And it comes off as quick.

Beware of the water-sopping effects of the surf suit. I tried it a couple times and it really slowed me down with all the extra water weight i had to pull along...

I haven't done it, but I have read that triathalon wetsuits are of interest to surfers because they are light weight and flexible. Due to the way they are cut, they will not keep you as warm as a surfing wetsuit. I could also see from looking at them that some have no inner liner on the neoprene. This will make them wear more quickly. Stated negatives aside, the idea has merit because of the stated positives. The advantages have been lessened somewhat by all the cool, ultra stretchy, front zipper surfing wetsuits that have come out in the last two years. But, I'm sure for some people, it is just what the doctor ordered. If you go this route, blueeyed, please keep us informed.

I know the surfing suits keep in more water and do slow you down, but I wont be competing to win! And I'm more used to swimming in a pool in a speedo so when I get into the ocean in a wetsuit, I seem to fly along nicely anyway! If I seen a tri suit on sale I might get one. Can't justify one just for 5-10 uses a year.

Not sure if this is a secret but C-Skins are working on a Triathalon suit for launch next year. It won't be in surf shops but available directly from them. I've seen the final prototype and it looks good,
Hardcore surf company/triathalon suit.. got to be worth checking out. Don't tell anyone I told you.

I have a few Orca suits I surf in. A well fitted PFlex is really nice. I have surfed, freedove, and swam laps in it. Works great for me.
