i was surfing today and my fin and the fin plug broke! anybody had ths b4? i fixed it 2day and i took off the old plug (i pretty much took off all the foam under the plug). i only use solarex to fill in the spot where the foam used to be and i installed the new plug and let it overflow. i'll just sand it later on when it gets dry. do you guys think it'll fix it coz somebody told me that solarex will only stick to fiberglass and nothing else?!

if it's fcs then you should have filled the spot with foam then glassed a couple layers over it and then drill a spot for the plug and put it in. for future u should have filled the spot with foam then installed the box and then glassed over it and sand down to expose the box. u can't use sun cure for those deeper repairs because it won' cure very deep.

Hey norcal sorry I did not go more in depth for ya I had to split in a hurry and get my kid from school. As miamisurfer stated in a nut shell yep that's it. The least repair/fix I've ever seen done that held till board death is ( the foam was cleaned up a lil and 4 1/8" holes drilled in at a aprox 45 deg angle toward the deck away from the center kinda like drawing an X over the hole and it's upper tips are on each side of the existing plug( not sure if you'll get this) all glass around is sanded down, Q-cell or micro ballons mixed with the resin injected and or pressed into holes/plug area and the loose plug (being pre set on the fin) is set in the new resin hole and existing plug slot screw locked down taped in place and let set 24hrs. Next sand down and resin/cloth over (twice if needed) sand down and resin over with sand resin and polish coat if ya want but not needed, your done. the real repair or factory orig style is to hole saw a new holes on both plugs and epoxy a new foam plugs in the board, sand down foam and glass (a good distance to the sides and length) Router with a template jig new plug holes, install new plugs with a resin+ q-cell/micro ballon mix, Re glass plug and surrounding area like it were a new board never glassed before, done.
My recomendations for a home repair with minimal tooling/space etc is the first writing send is better and best is to remove all plugs all fins and fill holes with epoxy resin and a foam plugs,router with a jig for FCS FUSION plug/box type fin fixtures for a few reasons 1 they are just as good if not better than Future fins box ( Future fins which I'm a supper fan of and have on most of my boards), You wont have to switch fin brand, fill the area just like a (box fin) like it was made with them and not just a repair. What you did looks like it will work and might for a bit but it will no doubt crack come out etc. and leak without you knowing it till it's too late. Sorry to be the one with bad news but it's real. You need to fix it right yourself or take it somewhere to get it done for you. your choice and good luck.

$50.00 is the cheapest I've charged and $350. is the most I've seen charged (Total fin plug to box replacement with fins.)
It depends on what you chose to get done, You can do this yourself just get the materials and take it easy, go slow. The average in cost $100 to 150 for something like you got buy the time it's all said and done. whatever the cost for repair, if the board is new or in great shape it for sure cost's less than a new board right?? Yea it sucks but whadda ya gonna do??? this shizz happens and ya just have to deal with it. again good luck If ya were closer I'd help ya more but the cost would kill that idea.

$350 with all the fin plug broken or just one? i started call people here in my area to see who can fix it. im sure they'll charge more since i kinda try to fixed it w/ solarex. you think its a bad idea to use it again in the water w/ solarex?

Negative I would not risk the leak chance or rippin out the outher plug plus a chunk of board. Yes 350.00 for a total(all plugs) to a box change out (3 new boxes and fins) 100.00 ea box and 50 for fins. My bud went somewhere else out in FL it was 75.00 for one plug (that's all he broke) and whoever did the work did a great job!!!! couldent see any repair at all. and it's still going. so I say go get it fixed. If ya don't treat your equiptment well your equiptment won't treat you well ok???

thanks for the reply bro. i ended up bringing to a pro coz i dont want to mess it up more. he only charged me 35 and luckily i didnt use it w/ solarex on it coz the inside was still wet when we took the plug out.
