i have a 6'8 board w/ a 7 ft leash. it feels like my leash keeps on tangling on my leg. do you think i should go w/ a 6 ft leash instead.....will it be to short for me...i'm 5'11.

but then since your gonna have it on the back foot.. ... i think 6 foot is enough

the general rule is to have a leash about the same length as your board..

A longer leash helps when you're recovering your board after you fall off, since it gives you about the right length to swing your board around when you're getting back onto it.

Also, a slightly longer leash lets it sink further while you're sitting on your board. If your leash is too short it will restrict your leg movement when you're sliding your body onto your board, and sitting on it.

don't wrap the leash around the board when you're out of the water. it just puts kinks in it and will make it loop around when you're sitting in the water

leash size is dependent on waves size. bigger waves = longer leash. for shoulder high and below you will nee a leash roughly the same length as your board. when it starts getting bigger adjust accordingly.

I have a rack with all my different length leashes, in order, and by thickness that keeps them all die straight. I even have different colour ones to match my boards, I think I must have 20+ leashes.

i just chuck it in the board bag. no need to wrap it up. i guess i should have said, don't wrap it super tight. if it's looser it won't kink up so much

you can also buy thinner leg ropes which are suppose to be less of a hassle. Again the heavier the wave the thicker your leggie should be. Unless your keen to swim in?

I've been out in 2 ft to 8 ft. with the same 6 ft. regular with leash....never really had a problem yet....

yeah but are you really prepared to swim in on a big day? Leashes can snap in small surf let alone big surf.

to be honest i just never really thought about switching leashes.....we don't get many big days here, so the couple times it's been over 6 ft. i just didn't think about my leash, bad idea i must admit.

i suppose i responce to my answer if you didnt think you could swim in you wouldnt be out there! right?!

Ive only snapped mine once, and only had to swim in 30 metres, but it was into a rip as its the only way in unless you wanna rock hop. That was bad enough, i was knackered after that and im by no means unfit

double swivel leashes work like a charm

i only really change when it gets really big or gnarly.

Yes I have some issues with my leash also. Its not only wraps around my ankle while I'm sitting on my board, but often, it wraps around the back fin also.

My whole sitting up on the board has an auto process, which is pulling the leash out of the water to straighten it everytime I sit my ass down on the board...

I no longer wrap my leash around my board, and I leave it hanging straight up when I'm at home.

I have a 7.3 mini mal, and the leash is 8 foot - swiveled. Is it too long? Its also quite thick.
Could I get away with a 7ft?

anyone use da kine leashes.

da kine makes all kine stuff from deck pads to board bags. really good too my bag neva rip...yet. and my leash and my deck pad stay all cherray

i got the dakine taylor knox models. i like the skinny part of the ankle strap. they're pretty inexpensive, and work well enough in the conditions i use them in. i also have the andy irons deckpad. i just got it because it was all white. and the guy at the shop said that i have to get it because it matched the art on the board best. and he cut me a deal on it just so that i would buy it...to me a deckpad is a deckpad. colour doesn't matter to me. but to that guy it did. it was kind of funny

i have a couple of big wave leashes and a couple of normal leashes. take one of each to each session just incase i break one.
