Hi guys,
I'm looking for a new wetsuit and have found that
Rip Curl wetsuits fit me perfectly.
I brought a Core Fireskin 5/3mm originally, only to be told it was out of stock, so, having trawled the internet for ages, have kinda settled on the E Bomb.
Just a few questions to anyone with any knowledge of this suit:
- Is the chest zip version the one to go for over the back zip?
- How warm is it? (cold Welsh waters!)
- How hardy do you find it?
- What do you think of Rip Curl wetsuits?
- Would you recommend the E Bomb? All input MASSIVELY appreciated!

Rip curl suits! Now this will depend on who you talk to. Some love them some hate them as there seems to be quite a difference in quality from one year to the next.
I have an e-bomb that has just gone through its 3rd season and its still great. Really supple still no rips or tears or breaks in the seams. Very warm as well.
However my mate bought one last year and both legs tore at the seams after just the first use.
Ive got 2 other rip curl suits too both are good but im pretty sure not everyone will have had the same good experiences with their rip curls.

I don't kow what to think really - I've done a few searches on the forum, so many people saying they've ripped, split and are generally crap.
Hmmm... could you recommend anything else?

was talking a guy in a shop who sold me an e bomb, he said it was one bad batch that came out with bad seems that turned people off
i think my suit is just as warm as my exel and not as restrictive. ive only had it 5 months but it seems grand

Thanks Danny_Boy,
It's difficult to kow what to think really, I know Rip Curl offer a lifetime guarentee on all seams.
Do you have the Chest Zip E Bomb or the Back Zip?

It sounds like they've got good customer service - did you take the issue up with them directly or did you go through the shop where you brought the suit?

You dont have to take it to the shop you bought it from i got mine from one of ripcurls shops but my mate got his from a different one we both took it to the outlet and got new suits the next day. + my mates one didnt really have anything wrong with it and they still replaced it

I was sold on ripcurls customer service from that day onwards. Oh and neither of us had any form of receits
Its also best to find a ripcurl store and buy direct particually now as i got a cracking deal on my ebomb. Like a $100 off when i purchased it off season:wink:

i got the back zip, found the front zip kinda restrictive. not too sure if you can get an e-bomb unhooded with a front zip(could be wrong there)
i was told to bring the suit back in 11 months and get ripcurl to check it out. if the seems are going or anything else for that matter then ripcurl will have no problem replacing it

Just echoing others comments: my ex had a ripcurl suit that was always ripping along the seams, they were really good about repairing it (although this was in NZ) but that was 2-3 weeks where the wettie was away being mended. Don't think i'd risk it after that.....

my roommates ripcurl e-bomb was starting to rip before it got stolen, that was the backzip and he replaced it with the chest zip and says he like the chest zip better because it lets in less water when duck diving. and for the psycho not being as warm, i'd argue that because i'm surfing up here in morro where its still about 51 and during the winter when it was about 48-49 with a 3/2 psycho and having all my friends in their 4/3s complaining about being cold...so i guess warmth is all just relative to what you can handle.

i'm gonna buy an e-bomb (2007) and was curious if anyone knew how to tell if a suit was from the bad batch or not? is there a certain color/year/model number/type to avoid?
thanks
