buying first board

Postby poole » Sun Mar 16, 2008 6:11 pm

hi, i want to get surfing this year, ive had a go at surfing a couple of years ago on a soft board, and loved the experience, managed to stan up, hell of a buzz!

i now want to buy my own, im about 11 stone in weight, and just under 6 ft, the instructor recomended a mini mal, bic board, but ive read that bic's dont surf as well as custom mini mals, id porobably go for a new board, price isn't a problem as i got a bit saved up!

any recomendations for a first time buyer, cheers

Alex.

personally i wouldnt go out n buy a brand spanker. Get a secong hander when you are confident in your abillities then get a custom/chat to a shaper. you will probably beable to sell the second hander for the same you purchaced it for.

As for what board at your stage it dont matter if its a popout but id reccomend something in the realm of a minimal with a good deal of float.

I just spent a day teaching sum people to surf on customs great boards but not ideal as too skinny

Agreed. Save your cash, buy used, figure out what your style is going to be.

If you progress much you will want a new shape within a year, and you will still have some money to buy it.

Good luck
