Loving the fact that many of you guys out there are shaping your own rides these days. Nothing quite like riding a board you made your self.

Here's my latest edition to my ever expanding quiver of boards. (rapidly ruinning out of space at home at the moment but who cares)

Im planning on doing alot of wave kitesurfing this year and needed an improvement on my current 2 wave boards so this boards shape and dimensions is designed with an aim to achieve a specific goal. Fingaz crossed i'll find out if ive got what im aiming for as there is wind forecast for the weekend! 8)

The board is made from epoxy, extra strength is necessary for the amount of abuse its likely to get! 2 layers of 6oz glass on the bottom and 3 layers 6 oz on the top with further strengthing round the footpads.

The board is 5ft7 x 17.25 x 1.875. Deep single concave through to v in the tail.
Fins are red-x as this will allow me to adjust the looseness of the board. Loose for choppy surf and stiffer in bigger more well defined swell. Well thats the theory anyway.

3 layers of 6oz? *whistles* wow, that thing is a beast! did you use a relatively dry lay-up? I just did a 7oz+1.2oz bottom and a 2x4oz top and i thought I had designed a bulletproof board... are the loads any different on a kite board vs a surfboard? (i've always wondered)

anyhow, looks like a beauty! i love the color. did you put that on the blank of under the hotcoat?

The board weighs in at 4kgs complete with straps etc, but weight isn't an issue in my opinion on a kiteboard infact i prefer a slightly heavier board when its choppy. But 4kgs is not heavy considering the amount of glass on the board.
The loading on this board will be hugely different to a normal surfboard, specifically around the deck where my feet go. At this point i have extra patches as well becasue the board will dent. This board too coming in at 1 7/8 inch thickness needs all the strength it can have because i am more than capable of jumping 30ft up and you don't allways come down softly.
Also the choice of fin systems is critical as fcs just aren't capable of taking the loadings and will quite often pop out, hence the use of red-x fins which the plugs pass right through the board.
The blank was sprayed blue with the logo masked out but then i sprayed the finished board the colour you can see using auto motive spray cans and laquered over the top. Real easy to do! 8)
