Wetsuits 101

Postby Plaz » Fri Feb 01, 2008 2:00 pm

I just bought my first wetsuit. How about some tips about proper usage? If you pee in it, doesn't it just sit in there untill you take it off? Mmmm, warm. How about on an inbetween day? Changing from wetsuit to board shorts? I looking for those tips that come with experience.

Always wash your wetsuit out with fresh water thoroghly after every surf. Keep your finger nails trimmed so that you don't tear up the inside of the suit when you put it on. Be careful not to put too much stress on the seams when you are putting it on. Take care of it and it will return the favor.

In trying on the wetsuit, I've found the thing is a walking sauna! Best to put on at the beach? How to I keep sand out? Commando? Inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks lads.

What ever works for you man. Try things out. Personally I'm commando but some people use those cycing shorts/speedos or just normal boxers on underneath.

re Sand... (I hate the stuff!!) suit up on the car park, grass or rocks and/or get yourself a little box to stand in when changing in and out of your suit. helps keep the sand away.
Also you can keep a little water with out each session and rinse the worst of the sand off you and the suit before you take it off. Bonus for the winter is fill the bottle up wth hot water and wrap it in your towel. by the time you get out its perfect temperature and warms you up a treat :D

I personally wear underarmour compression shorts underneath the wettie, they help with extra warmth and can change in the parking lot without worrying. Also sand will almost always get in your suit no matter where you change, but the best place is in the parking lot if there is one, just make sure to wash it out after every surf or it will stink pretty bad.
