Rack help with small car

Postby SouthBay » Fri Feb 01, 2008 12:47 am

I'm taking a surf class at my school and they sold us longboards. I want to know how I can transport the board probably 50 miles on the freeway. I drive a Honda Prelude 91. its a very small car and it is a 2 door. Can I use a rack or a strap? Which one would be good for me?

Get roofracks if you can , it'll be fine.

Straps are OK for occasional or short use.

What kind of roof rack? Are there different sizes and how would I hook it up to my car because I see most of them are connected throught the windows and the cars that are connected to are 4 windows.

Go for a Thule rack system, a little bit expensive, but easy to fit and very good !!!

Put the front ones through the doors and the back ones through your pop out windows, as far back as you can. My girl friend has bassically the same car. Only other thing i would recomend would be to try and get a board you can fit in your car from the trunk to over the front passenger seat.

I have no pop out window. Just the front windows. Its probably about 24 inches long( the top of the door). the board is 9'.

i have a civic, and i tried hauling around a longboard and i got about a mile before the wind had pulled the straps loose. Luckily i was able to pull over in time. Pretty much with a 2 door u cant separate the straps enough to get enough leverage on the board. Basically the wind is applying to much torque on the straps. Theres rly nothing u can do about it unfortunately. You might be able to open the trunk and put hte back seats down and pu tthe longboard inside ur car. It works for a civic which is around the same size.

Thule all the way. They have a specific system for your car:

They don't fall off. I've used them for years, never had a problem, they may cost a bit, but you won't lose your board and the racks last for years.
