Well i hit ran my board over some low lying rocks - feel like a complete idiot as i should have known better.

However unlike the last time that happened the whole fin box has been blown out instead of just the fin snapping.

Are you going to use a new finbox or the old one? Make sure you set the box in right when the resin is curing, you don't want it tilted to one side. Also, put a few layers of glass over the box. Don't forget to tape the slot and hole.

thanks for that bit of info. :D

Im in two minds whether to replace the box or not. The trouble is that replacing the box means i have to jump in the car and drive to my shaper to pick one up - mind you i could use that as an excuse to go surf up at Swamis

That sucks. One of the downsides to futures is exactly this though, when they do fail it means a slightly more involved repair job.
Have to say though that is a pretty clean break from the fin box to the board, normally the glass tears up way more than that.
All i can add is make sure you give the surrounding area a really good hard sand so that when you put your glass patches on they don't sit up proud and this should minimise sanding later. Are you going to re-hot coat too?
