riding retros...

'ello! have been checking out some retro boards....

http://www.blackandwhitesurfcoltd.co.uk/retro.php

http://www.surfersparadise.co.uk/retroboards.html

http://www.atlanticsurfboards.co.uk/sur ... o_egg.html

wondered what people think of how they ride....

i normally ride a 9" (when i can) and reckon i might treat myself to something smaller - think a 7" would be good size. im not that experienced a surfer (aint much surf here in cambs!) but i try and get in when i can.

i like the eggs but especially the classic 70's styles - mmmmm....

worth considering or too much to handle?

(any help would be much appreciated )

I had a 6'10" Magic Carpet and it was BRILLIANT to ride - as long as the waves were clean!

Any sort of chop made it less enjoyable - and obviously it's harder to paddle than a 9' + board.

I've ridden mine in 2' up to overhead + and you can throw them around like a shortboard - as I say, the only downside is the fact that they only really work well in super clean waves (or at least, that's what I found)

Why not see if you can borrow or hire an 8' board and see if you like it?? The decide from there??

I've got a 7'4" super fish, quite a retro shape that I like, been riding 9'0" + boards for 15 years, but used to ride a shortboard for a few years before that. It took a bit of time to get into again, but no real problem and it's good fun to have a non longboard option, especially for a harder paddle out.

A retro single fin around 7'6" is definitely on my wish list.

I really like the look of some of the boards these guys make

Bet they are expensive though.

One of the local shapers does these, which look sweet too.
