board discolouration

Postby vandangos » Fri Dec 28, 2007 10:18 pm

does anyone know the best ways to prevent your board from discolouring, i brought a board about 2 months ago (secondhand) and it was white but now im starting to see discolouration near the nose. i dont know why because after i surf i keep it in my bag until i surf again.

cheers, karl

Boards turn yellow because of the sun, or because they're letting in water. Sounds like you might have a small crack in the nose?

A third culprit can be repairs - if a second hand board has had a ding fixed, and then paint applied over the top of the repair, the paint will often go yellow.

it sounds like there is a crack somewhere around the nose of the board.

or it might be a repair that was done using boat resin which some of them have a tendancy to be yellowish in colour. well thats what happened to one of my boards when i ran out of my normal patch stuff lol
