Fin Setup - Can I remove two? (8ft Fun Shape) > traerega

I own the board on the right, pictured here:

As you will notice, it's got a tri-fin setup. I've been in the water two years now and I am finally starting to turn well and work the wave face, but I feel like it's a little stiff.

Can I remove the smaller outside fins and leave only the center fin? What would the result be?

Secondly, the center fin is adjustable, as I can move it forward and backward. Which will loosen it up, moving it more forward, or at the back?

Thanks!

No worries removing the side biters if the centre fin is big enough. Needs to be about 7inches to be used as a single fin.
Try this first with the fin in the rear postion, then see how it is. If its still too stiff move it forward in the box progressively until you get to a point where you're happy.
However point to note is the board will ride differently as a single fin. Faster but will get less drive and thrust from your turns so you'll need to be doing big swooping turns and fast down the line runs.
Experiment and see how you get on.

What size centre fin do you have in there?
A different size or shape would make a difference too.

Thank you both for your help!

Here's the fin setup:

Unfortunately I don't think it's quite 7 inches.

See how the side fins are angled?

That provides lateral thrust in turns and mives the back. With only a single fin you dont get that so have to carve turns instead.

If you want faster more agresive turns a singlefin isnt going to be your answer.

You need a shorter board, thats all, you can move to a 6.8, and if you want boyancy, get a thick board.

just keep moving the centre fin around, trying different positions. if you still aren't happy, and really want to see a difference in surfing then you could get a new board if you have the money (but a new board isn't always the best option).
