5/3 minimum for our waters pretty much last month until April! Make sure you got good boots, gloves and a hood too.

As for suit, get as good a one as you can afford. Xcel and Snugg are top. Personally I'd avoid RipCurl as you want a suit to last.

I wanted the Xcel suit but it was out of my price range so ended up buying the Salomon as it was in a sale!

Just looking for boots and hood now anybody got any recommendations for either of these? :D

Have some Xcel 5mm boots...lovely toasty and warm! Great feeling through the soles too, I was surprised how good at first! As for hood, I've picked up the alder hood, haven't worn it out yet though as it's still warmish 14 degree water. https://surfing-waves.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10383

Tried to get a pair of boots today but shop only had 2 pairs in my size and they weren't that great a fit i could move my foot about half an inch sideways before the boots caught up. I'm kinda guessing this isn't how they are meant to fit?

Are split toe boots better for surfing than round toe boots?

Split toes are exactly made for your foot not to slip sideways in the boot. I would go split toe. As far as gloves go I bought a pair of O'Neill's last year and they are so fleshin' warm. I know our water temps are not as cold as yours but these gloves are so warm I have flooded them with water to cool my hands off. Also these gloves fit very very tight. I thought they were going to be to tight but the guy that sold them to me said they were supposed to be that tight. He was right. They are warm as toast. I will see if I can find a link.

Here is the US Link. I could not find it in the Europe section. It was mostly snowboarding stuff.

Alder hood, O'Neil 5mm Lobster gloves and Alder 6mm boots do the job for me. The boots feel a bit like wellies and not much chance of feeling the board through them, but they certainly keep my feet toastie warm.

Cheers guys! The shop i was in didn't have any split toe boots in my size so it was only the round toe ones which didn't feel right!

Going shopping again this week so will have a look at the O'neill gloves and search for a pair of split toe boots to try! :D
