U.K Wetsuit advice

Postby derbyshire surfer » Sun Oct 21, 2007 6:30 pm

Hi, just going to buy a new Winter Wettie. I've got a Rip Curl Classic which I've had since Feb this year. It's been great but I'm looking at getting a second so I have 2 suits on a trip.

Has anyone used any of these? Looking around the £150 mark:

I've narrowed it down to the Billabong Foil, Rip Curl Core Fire Skin, Quiksilver Syncro. or I just spotted a Rip Curl E-bomb for £150 on Ebay.

Appreciate any advice, surf mainly East Coast, trying to get to Devon more too.

Cheers

I got a Billabong Solution Gold from the US (at half the UK price!!) and it fits great and is warm as toast - but I reckon it's only been worn a couple of dozen times and a couple of the seams are opening up .........

I was going to get a custom (Snugg) suit last time - next time I'm DEFFO going to - a little bit more, but I know people that have had them for getting close to ten years = BARGAIN!!

I picked up my C-Skins vault in March. So far so good. Really warm, haven't noticed any flushing. Think I paid £160 brand new.

Cheers for that everyone, I think Snugg and Excel are looking good but a bit pricey, still worth saving for a good suit. May go with the C-Skins for now and save for an Excel fo rnext Winter!

Another option is a BodyGlove Stormtrooper 5/4. Just got one and find it to be really comfy and not a hint of flushing. Only downside is its not easy to get in and out of, but then can only be good as shows a nice fit...

Anyway, wetsuit outlet have them reduced from £210 to £140 with free next day delivery p&p.

And in case anyone hasn't mentioned it, I wouldn't recommend Rip Curl. Got a suit last year and seams split after half a dozen surfs!

Cheers Granite for the BodyGlove advive, that looks good, ziperless too? If you use it in Scotland that's recommendation enough!

Cheers

Yup, zipperless. You kinda climb in through the neck of the suit and then pull the neck then bib over top. Sounds mad but it's super comfy.

14 would be nice for a week long trip.

(Between you and me I'd like a spare one, don't tell any of the guys on here, I've been giving them the impression I'm some sort of hardman surfer and I think they're falling for it!)

I've been looking for a winter suit over the last few days in Newquay. And think I'm going to go for the C-Skins Session @ £200. Tried the Wired but I don't like the front zip design .. I tried it on and it's bloody difficult to climb out the neck when it's dry, let alone wet and cold

I wouldn't go for a Rip Curl ... one of the guys in a shop said they've stopped selling them because they kept getting so many back. My current wetsuit is a Rip Curl Classic and it's starting to go at the seams already .. I've only had it since August :/

My winter suit is a West Nitro 5/4...can't comment on it yet as I haven't started wearing it....next week!! I do have the 3/2 Nitro though and have to say it's great. 110 quid (both 3/2 & 5/4 on sale) and seems to do the job perfectly.

to be fair i brought a ripcurl e bomb last march and it started falling apart.took it back to the shop i got it from and showed them, they said no problem and replaced with a new improved suit and said that there was a problem during manufacture..something to do with the seams being done to cold and condensation......i say if they fleshin' up and are prepared to fix that then i recon good on em :D im stoked on ripcurl :D

for now
