Which Brands Are Pop-Outs?

So I am basically trying to figure out what major brands are pop-outs...or better yet which ones aren't.

I know that Bics are pop-outs, and some of the worst of the lot. NSP's are pop-outs and but not as bad as Bic.

Are Isle and Ron Jon's boards also popouts? I have read in seperate threads on this site that Ron Jon's boards are popouts and that the basic foam shape is popped out, but that they are fine-tuned and finished by hand.

So basically if anyone could give me some hints about what major brands would be hand made or partially hand made and which brands are strait up pop-outs I would appreciate it.

I know that it's best to go with your local shaper, but I am pretty sure that there aren't any shapers within 500 miles of me...plus I don't have the cash for it.

Thanks for the help! :D

Hi becky.

You have such a range of board manufacturingnow.

Pure popouts from moulds, like BIC and NSP.

Surftec stuff which is technicaly a poput I guess but ther light and tough and a lot of people like them.

Machine made 'custom' foam/glass from blanks.

Machine made hand finished foam/glassed boards.

Hand made foam/glass boards.

And IMo what a real 'custom' is is a shaper making a foam/glass board for you rather than off the shelf.

IMO, ignoring all the above if its a good board and right for you then go for it. Thats unlikely to mean a bic, but a surftec or machine made could well be a better board than a badly hand shaped one.

eye, but the good thing about bics etc is strenght, boyuancy and wave catching ability, even though i dont really like them some of them can be good boards

yes isle and ron jon boards are popouts.

Ive chatted with a few surfers about the definition of a popout. I think most people agree on it, but few die hards actually consider any board off the rack to be popout as it wasnt shaped exclusiverly for you.

If you can find a custom shaper within reach thats the best way to go in view of the fact that i just picked up my custom today and am totally stoked :-)

Thanks for the input everybody!

Oh and I apologize if I stepped on any toes with the comments about Bic and NSP boards. I didnt want to get in trouble for not having read the previous posts before I flaunted my ignorance for all of you!
