Key storage boxes

So I got myself one of those Masterlock 5400D key boxes, and I'm somewhat dissapointed. The compartment is a bit cramped, and it doesn't hold my oversized Toyota transponder car key.

What other options do I have? All I can find are:

Keypod

Surflock
http://surflock.com.au/main.htm

These items are rather pricey. Does anyone here, in the real estate business maybe, know of more reasonably priced shackles?

TIA

:D

Can you not get yourself a dupilcate key cut that you can use to just open your car door with? Then you can then hang this one round the back of your neck on a shoe lace whilst out surfing.

I suppose I could do that, but I'd get a little paranoid of hiding my actual car keys inside my car. I mean, a determined thief could just shatter the window, find my keys, and take off.

Hang it around your neck...works a treat. Just leave the keys under the seat...the seat then gets covered in the boardbag and towel and everything else!

hmm I'd be a bit paranoid about locking my keys to the car in one of those pods as well.

Why not get one of these? http://www.waterproofcases.net/pakpak.html .. completely waterproof so ok for electric keys, money etc. I just strap it around my waste and put my wet suit over the top. I think you're supposed to but it outside your wetsuit but I prefer it inside incase the strap snaps or something

yea those aquapacks are brilliant, i put mine down my wetsuit arm and know it's going nowhere, some people put it in their boots (if you wear them) others just tie that to string etc..

I have one that locks into the trailor hitch and has plenty of room

That being said I think what Kitesurfer said would be fine. If some one wants to break your window to steal your car they will also be able to place a screw driver in the ignition and start it. If they want it they can take it.

if you live in a area that has a fair bit of a crowd, then i would just get a standard key cut that only locks/unlocks your doors and put it in your leggie pocket. when you are getting changed just sneakily hide your good keys in amongst your socks or jocks or something, as every other car probably just hides their keys in their wheel arches or someother really poor hiding spot. if a thief is going to go to the trouble of smashing your window infront of other people then they are most likely going to pinch your car regardless if they find your key or not.
