hey i see some people out there using traction pads. I am wondering what the benefits of having one is. Is it worth the cost and does it actually work a lot better then wax.

Ive got one on my board, and I couldnt imagine it without one, but if your fine with just normal wax then stay with it.
Its just down to personal preference, it helps you find the sweetspot also when out in bigger waves which is all good.
Hope this helps
