Postby sdsurf » Sat Sep 22, 2007 10:11 pm

last time i left my surfboard in the car the wax melted off on my seats. Is there any way to leave it in there and not have it melt or is there any bags that let u leave it in there without it melting the wax? thanks for help

Be careful leaving it in a hot car, bag or not - I once had about a third of the deck of my longboard delaminate, leaving a bubble with about 1cm of air under it, which was a pain in the arse to repair. If possible, I leave my board in a reflective bag locked to the roof bars, or under the car, locked to the bull bars.

Bad, bad, bad idea!

You are gonna end up with the kind of thing Hang11 got... Or worse.

ok.. so i too leave my board in my car all the time. but my car is tinted and i have a $60 dakine board bag with the reflective tarp and whatever, i DO NOT USE board socks, they are the worst things ever, i'm kind of clumsy and it's too hot... but i've never had an experience when the wax melted, it was always cool inside the bag, even if my car was blazing hot due to the leather seats.

so is it a good idea to do that?
lemme know please.. (sorry to steal the thread.)

Maybe it doesn't get so hot where you are?

Summer here is 47C (117F) outdoors. Inside a car over here, with the windows up and air-con off, temperatures climb to over 80C (176F) very quickly.

Imagine how much the air inside your board will expand in that heat? Even in a good silver boardbag it's gonna happen. All the wax on my wife's board melted last summer... While it was in the bag and the bag wasn't in the car.

Basically, in that kind of heat a good bag just puts it off.

It happened to me in the UK, which isn't exactly known for Ozzie levels of heat in the summer.
