Broken Futures Fin, Cannot remove

Postby dbackes05 » Thu Jul 13, 2006 2:08 am

Hey, broke my futures fin off of a new Fish i bought.

It broke off sometime during the first session i ever brought it out.

Trouble is that it snapped at the base and I cannot remove with pliers.

Ive never owned a board with Future fins, so I attempted to take a look at how these fins go in, so i tried taking off one of the other fins with no luck.....It felt like they were superglued in there.

any suggestions how to get the broken one off????

BTW I did remove the screws of course

thanks,

Dave

So you've got the screw out? Completely out?

To pull them off you need to 'pivot' them around the end that hasnt got the screw - there's a kinda C-shape in the base of the fin which slots around a bit of the base in the board. So you have to pull the fin up and backwards.

Pulling them straight up wont do it. They can be a bit stiff sometimes, but if you pull (hard) in the right direction, they'll pop straight out.

If the fin has come completely off (so only the bottom bit remains in the board) this can be a complete nightmare to get out - you need to GENTLY lever it out with a small screwdriver from the screw end.

Good luck :D

Easy, get a small drill bit and drill it into the fin far enough to get a good grip then get some pliers on the drill shank as close to the fin as poss then pull up carefully. Put the drill in the front of the fin rather than the rear.
