waxy wetsuit

Postby iomarti » Fri Apr 28, 2006 7:33 pm

i've got a huge white patch on my derriere where i've sat on my board.

i've been looking at other surfers bottoms, (it's becoming a bit of a compulsion) and they don't have white patches.

I'm quite embarrassed, and i guess it also shows that i probably haven't waxed my board very well.

How do I get the wax off my suit? Any ideas welcome - I was sceptical about the cardboard surfboard but it's fab - I'll try all sorts!

Hey my springy has a big old white bum from sitting on my board on the beach after i've come out and i'm watching Brent surf or before i go in and am trying to work up the energy. It hadnt occured to me to get rid of it, honestly noone will notice, and even if they do they'll give it about 0.003 seconds thought, realise its wax and move right on.

If the wax is coming off while you're in the water sounds like you might have the wrong wax for you're water temperature, check that if you are in warm water you're using warm water wax cos anything else will just slop off.

If you're really keen to get rid of it, i think PapaW has said before that you can put your wetsuit on a cool wash in the washing machine, although i've never tried this. If that doesnt appeal or work try leaving it out in the sun and just picking it off and then giving it a scrub with some mild detergent.

As for looking at surfer's bums, its all part of the fun :D

Haa haaa!! Sooo funny! Yea I fully know what you're saying. I noticed this a while back when I was just starting out and I used to worry.

Now I'm like.. so over it a. It doesn't effect my surfing or.. attempts at surfing in any way.

I think it was that the wax would rub off onto my suit when I'd be sitting on my board in the lineup?? Is that what's happening?

Maybe then you could like... sorry... vasaline your talulas so that wax doesn't stick to it.

You mite notice that you'll need to adjust your technique slightly as you try to sit up and notice you're on your back because of the 'lack of traction' factor...

Just let us know where you'll be surfing so we can come and enjoy the show too aye! :)

ok. Maybe I should lay off until I actually have something useful to contribute. oh no!

Aroha mai!

Sure is... maybe i'll hang on to my white bum gives me excuse to check out everyone elses without feeling pervy.

I'm using the wax the guy in my local surf shop sold me, a base coat of warm water and then a colder one on top. I think, I can't really remember I just did what he said.

I think cause I put it on in a warm room, it's just got really sticky.

I don't think I wanna put my suit in the washing machine... don't think it would even fit...

I have the same problem with my belly and knee when riding prone and drop knee.
To get the wax out of the suit stick it on a 30degree C washing the machine with a tiny pit of powder. Make sure its on SHORT CYCLE and NO SPIN... that will rid the majority and helps keep it smelling nice.
