Beginner with a Shortboard day-to-day monitoring

Postby xkrude » Thu Jul 09, 2020 1:39 pm

(sorry for my bad english but im practicing)

Hola, I'm 23 years old from Chile, i'm 183 cm, athletic skinny. when i was 16 years old i did six months of skate and i could do flip, flip 180 backside front side and other tricks thus now i have stability on skate and i can do only basic things and skid.
i was given a short board 6.6'', 47cm width and 3.7 cm thickness and i want to learn with this because i dont have money(you know, now are difficult moments.

wath advice can you give to me?, it will be difficult?

Day 1
the first day i not understood why a lot of surfers couldnt take a wave, only the most proffesionals could take a few of waves even though sea had it, the newbies couldnt take nothing. ¿why? atlhough all of this i learned to paddle and sit down in the board, i tried to do 2-3 take off but i couldnt do it, the board was destabilizing but i have faith that i will learn to do it.
the only problem was that when i was sumerged in the water and i swallowed, my ear hurt a lot but tomorrow im going to buy ear plugs.

i tell you that here is winter and there are 14° celcius in the day!

Thanks and give me advices please.

Surfing is a complex sport. Unlike skateboarding you have to learn about the ocean and waves and currents and have to learn to paddle and to get out through the surf and how to stand up and how to catch a wave and learn to read what the wave will do. While ii is possible to learn to surf on a shortboard most people will chose to use a longboard because it's easier and quicker to get to where you are actually riding a wave. I learned on a shortboard but probably a longer shortboard than yours and I was already familiar with the waves and the ocean and riding waves bodysurfing and body boarding. If it's just one time you went out so far then it will likely take many many more times to get to where you can ride a wave. It's much easier with a longer board.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Hola! The other advice is learning how to be safe in the ocean with other surfers...the rules of who goes, when. Learn from spending time with experienced surfers...one on one advice in the water with people who know and care about your learning is the peak.
