Complete Wetsuit Vs Separate Pars

Postby Joaquim » Wed Nov 06, 2019 7:33 pm

Hey everybody,

So, I was wondering about the difference between wearing a one piece wetsuit (let's say long sleeve and long pants) vs wearing both parts separately. Here in Rio water temperatures range from 20 - 28 ºC ( I agues 68 - 82 Fahrenheit) so I'm not sure how the separate parts would work in Winter, but for the above mentioned range of degrees, do you guys believe it makes sense having a set of pieces instead of a complete suit, or does the fact that they are a one piece thing makes it a whole lot diffent.

Thanks!

Are we talking about wetsuits or racing leathers ?

Wetsuits!!

I wear a wetsuit shirt and shorts but they are two separate pieces instead of a ShortJohn, and was wondering if it does make any difference insulationwise...

It will not insulate as well as a full body wetsuit, since some water will probably leak through the hips, but it could be enough for the temperatures you'll deal with (it also depends on how tolerant you are to cold).

I wear a Long Sleeve 1mm wetsuit top with board shorts even in Hawaii, because the waters warm but the breezy trade winds can get chilly. I see no reason to ever wear a wetsuit long pants ( or even if they even make one, not made of lycra/spandex.

So now, you're talking about wearing a separate short top and wetsuit shorts ( that makes more sense, and less confusing ) That as a "one piece" would be considered a "Spring Suit". It will definitely be warmer as it traps the heated warm around your core, instead of flushing out. The added benefit of using a Spring Suit or Short John is the top won't flip up and trap your arms and cover over your mouth when you wipeout.

Usually people pick more the complete wetsuits but in the end is up to you and how you plan to use them. Oh and the water temperature :)

I don't think you need a wetsuit at 20C? Maybe just a vest to stop the windchill.
