Pretty new to surfing, but I dropped my board and am worried it needs a fix!

Yes it does, minor but needed now rather than have water problems!

No it won't if you care about the life of your board. But since most won't listen as the call of the waves are too strong.......... what ever you do, DO NOT put wax on it to cover up the ding.

1. Sand
2. apply freshly mixed resin (poly or epoxy based on board materials)
3. sand smooth
4. if it's worse then it looks, then change step 2 to apply 2 ounce glass and resin; then sand smooth

You don't just cover it up, you get it fixed.

But I know if the waves are pumping, you just drove 4 hours, took a dive over the falls into a rock and there's no one to borrow a board from, you ( and I ) will want to scrap some wax off the deck and put it over the crack. ( at least to save your forearm from a fiberglass cut / slice )

In Japan here there's this thing called "Kitchen Tape" which you use to fill the gap between the gas burner stove and the wall. It's like duct tape with aluminum skin on it. But I hate doing repairs after you pull off that gunky sticky stuff.

"Kitchen Tape": In USA mainland construction industry, we call this Aluminum Tape/Aluminum Foil Tape. It's designed for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), duct, pipe, insulation and more. I probably have a roll or two leftover from when I installed a large HVAC system in my old house.
