Soft rack + straps?

My car doesn't have the possibility of hard racks. So, should buy BOTH soft racks (a pair?) and the tie-down straps?

Could you recommend a brand/model? Also, for now I'd be transimitting a foamie, but in the future would it also work for a hard-top?

Soft rack normally include the tie down strap. I really don't like soft rack as they just flap around when you're driving fast. However most people would swear that they have been using for years fine. They definitely damaged the water seal around the door so eventually you're going to have leaky roof/doors when it rains.

Any brand would work. Fcs, dakine etc. And yes they work for any type of board.

Is Dakine making actual Softracks again ? Or do you mean their rack pads and tie down straps ?

CV, are you 100% sure you can’t do hard racks? I have a VW Polo in Mexico, and I was able to find racks from Ireland ($108 shipped), and brought them down with me. There are a lot of aftermarket racks for different vehicles...

Yeah, it's a VW Jetta 2016. Naked roof. Just checked Thule a brand new installation would cost $500-600. I imagine used would only cut it to $200-300...

Dakine used to make really good softracks. But they stopped retailing them due to customer complaints and reimbursement claims for damaged boards, which ultimately came down to user error, not the fault or quality of Dakine's softracks. Too bad, I liked those.

Maybe just maybe? Just like my Polo racks, it looks like these install to the door frame area. Mick’s shipped them to me in just a couple days, I couldn’t believe it.
