Fitting leash to Torq soft deck?

Postby LittleSkink » Fri Sep 28, 2018 4:34 pm

My kids are growing out of their 7ft foamie so I have picked them up a 7ft6 Torq soft deck, its a nice piece of kit but I am a little unsure about leash attachment as the attachment point is surrounded by the soft deck foam

Fitting a leash in the normal manner and the leash string looks like it might do some damage to the foam - is the foam tougher than it looks or should I look for a larger/softer way to attach? Got plenty of different dyneema cord sizes in my climbing kit

Also, the leashes I am looking at, like Northcore and Dakine have rubber logos on the leash saver - again is that going to harm the softdeck foam or am I stressing too much? It is quite a pricey board compared to the old foamie so I don't want to damage it through a silly oversight

I would be more worried about:
1) toe nails
2) metal zipper pulls ( if you have a front zip )

Soft top might ‘dent’ or leave an impression from something pushing against it, but it won’t break or stop working. Just check out the soft tops used by surf schools - absolutely thrashed and stay perfectly workable
