What type of fin box?

Postby Cameron061 » Sun May 27, 2018 3:15 pm

Hi,

Around a year ago I bought this One Circle shortboard that was second hand from a local surf shop as one of my first surfboard. I am looking to upgrade the fins that I have however I don't know the fin box as i've never seen it before. I am also curious to what fins would actually fit in the board.

Circle One Surfboards are a UK board company based in Crediton Essex, the fin system is a US system DFS a sticker near the fins on the board.
It is always good to go to the Brand name makers for first hand advice.
The DFS boxes are pretty much a fin system from China no matter what the patent letters say they will take Standard FCS fins and with a little work solid base Futures, the usual FCS change is M5s but it you can access secondhand fin sets you can play mix and match.
Gentle poke though  have you ever thought to read the various labels on the board, they can take right to the source!
Usually glassed in not the ego one stuck on.

Cameron you asked, all the basic tab FCS fins should work as should the Futures with the solid base the difference ther the screws go into the side of the base. Maybe a little sanding needed.
Since a wide range of fins are available, have read through my fin guide and play around with sizes and characteristics.
Since you now know the brand you can also google information directly!

What’s wrong with the fins. Why do you need to replace them if they’re not broke ?

If I remember correctly, those China boxes used a slightly larger Allen key than FCS, so be careful not to strip out the bolts. How many times have you taken off the fins in the past year ?

Never had to remove them since I got the board. The only time was to tighten the screws as one of my fins came loose. I could keep with the current fins that I have to be honest, I just thought it'd be a good time to change to some better ones that aren't stock.
