New board with default?

Postby coisscoiss » Tue Jun 27, 2017 2:07 pm

Hi,

I have buy my first brand new surfboard. today they call me because the board don't pass the quality control.
They tell me that the problem is just aesthetic and will not affect the performance or durability of the board. They propose me a 100 euros discount on the board?
I post some picture that they sent me if you can give me some advice, it s just aesthetic? this can be worst in the future (performance, dirability)?

Yeah it sounds like a good deal to me but it depends on how much they were charging you to start off with. I think 10% of the price or more would be a good deal. The very first board I ever purchased was custom made for me but during the shaping the blank got a gouge that left the board with a cosmetic defect. The shaper only charged me $90 when his going rate was $125. But maybe he was also giving me a discount because I helped his wife and daughter out when they had some car trouble. I think if you surf a lot then the board will shortly have an assortment of little mars and those will not be so noticeable.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Looks like a scratch to me. I'd take the 100 euros.

It's an epoxy board so as long as there is no crack all the way through the outer layer (ie that would let water through), it's not going to cause any issues or weaknesses. Can't see anything in the photos that is a worry. That first one has a bit of bubbling but as long as it's not brittle it will be ok - can you push your fingers on the spot? Or just keep an eye on that area - it's on the top middle of the board so not usually a high risk area.

Seems a good deal, maybe ask for a few blocks of wax as well? Or just take the discount

coisscoiss,
the photos look okay. Imagine what the entire board will look like after you surf three times on it. I think I would accept their offer. It's just a surfboard. When I buy a new automobile or a new guitar, then it is different. These are things that I spend much more money for and want them to be perfect. It is possible to keep these things in good condition. However, every surfboard I have gets beat up. That's just the way it is.
