I was wondering what you guys would reccomend. I just started going to college at a school right next to the beach so I have plenty of time to run out and catch some. The thing is is that I have two prblems. 1) I have a broken foot and am going to be out of commission for 4 more weeks  and 2) Ive never been surfing before but figure that Im going to be doing plenty of it, so what board should I get? Im honestly thinking about getting a decent one off ebay, used or new and need some guidance from you guys. Im about 5'6 and around 180 so what board do you reccomend? Any help would be awesome! thanks!

welcome to the forum-
one thing before i get started-
there are great articles on the surfing-waves main site for this
and dont post on another topic.

but ok, ill give what i can.

what college? good surf? how often do you plan to surf?
are u 180 and 5'6" bc you are on the large side, or are you absoluetly ripped. i think you should probably go with a funboard, 7'2" to 7'8"

I used to play football so they breed us to be on the larger side, even if Im really short. Yea i would say that im a little "heavy or husky" whatver ud like to say, not like really fat but probably, most likely, not the typical shape of your "Average" surfer. Plus ive been sitting on my ass not being able work out b/c of the broken foot so its hard to stay in shape.

UNCW-Universtiy of North Carolina at Wilmington. From what Ive heard we get decent surf for east coast it dont think its gonna be massive waves but i would say about medium sized. If i was to guess i would say between 4-6 footers depending of all kinds of xxxxx

yea i know what its like with the football coaches. a funboard would probably be in your best interest, but you can probably move down to a fish if you already have some wave knowledge and balance. im actually lookin pretty seriously at UNCW. what do you think of it so far?

is ur cast for ur foot the hard water proof one? or whatever its called. cause if its not, then my bud once poured resin mixture on his cast and got it hardened so it wouldn't turn into a sponge in the water
