Totally radical idea for new board

Postby Chillguy » Tue Feb 28, 2017 9:43 pm

So I have thinking for a while about a concept for a board which is fully customisable by the user, anyone have any opinions on this as to wether it would be a successful idea? or a total flop.

Well you aren't the first one. If you mean design your own board you can already do that but if you mean alter your board so that it changes function as you wish now that might be popular. In that case it would allow surfers to blame themselves for making the wrong configuration for the waves.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

So is this customizable board concept your "massive contribution" to the surfing community ? Must people are going to ask more details, but be careful. The "Bonzer" design is great, developed by the Campbell Brothers. From what I remember they didn't want to patent and keep their design a secret but share it with everyone. So it wasn't accepted. But other companies that patent and file lawsuits to protect their designs "sell" better.
I've seen a multiple tail concept where your can switch out a pin tail for a swallow tail. Maybe replacing a full round nose for a thin pointy noise would be cool when conditions call for it.
Anyways, your concept will be great for the Beginner-Intermediates or the Half-Goods. Beginners and Advance surfers wouldn't need it , since they can ride anything.

Thank-you guys for your opinions I will definitely pursue this idea, unfortunately I can not give to much away as it is still in the concept phase and there are currently no patents on it yet

Protect your idea, if it worthwhile patent it but be aware that there doesn't have to be a great deal of change for someone else to do something similar and not breach the patent, thoroughly and legally document each stage of development. If is good bring it on :!:

Make a board with a middle leaf section that can be added or taken out like a dining table when company comes over....instant step up!

An underwater motor as paddling support would be nice ;-) With speed control via Surf/Smartwatch or better it intelligently recognizes when I need help (actually no intelligence needed here as that is almost always the case).

Cool. Nice Videos on youtube, too. Quite pricey though.

Garrett McNamara big wave surfer and current record holder of the biggest wave ever ridden (that was tow in) uses them when he isn't towing in.

Walden used to sell boards with wave jet but they've pulled the plug on that. All the unsold ones were refurbished to the regular boards. So I guess average surfers don't want/need them. But as a tow-in alternative? That's pretty cool!
