Which board for an intermediate surfer girl?

Postby Waterfallofcolours » Wed Feb 24, 2016 4:35 pm

Hi!
So, it's the first time that I'm posting a new topic, but a need a hand from more experienced surfers!
Before, I need to let you know a couple of facts about the spots I am used to hang out at and about myself: I usually surf in Italy, where we have a great vary of waves (from knee high to overhead), that's why I am looking for something quite all-around. I am used to surf every type of board from a 9'6ft longboard to a 6'2 minimal, nut I would like to go shorter. I took up surfing two years ago, but due to lack of time I could consider myself a "weekend warrior" and my level is intermediate. I'm 61 kg and 174 cm, and I am 19 years old. Moreover, I'm a girl, so by the moment my arms are not that strong as my friends' ones ahah. Actually, I'm not in my best shape too, but I just started training seriously again to get better performances too. Anyway, I am trying to improve my technique and I would like to buy a secondhand shortboard.
I was wandering about receiving a good advice from you about the right surfboard size for me (something not to struggle too much with while paddling, maybe). It would be also interesting to know if you have a favourite board brand.
A friend of mine is selling a Channel Island Al Merrick Robber 5'9 x19x2 1/4 lt 28,5, but I am worried about its length and volume, even if I consider it a great board.
Thank you in advance :surfing:

What most of us would consider intermediate means you can ride both frontside and backside and can do bottom turns, top turns and cutbacks. Is that what you mean? What size board are you currently using and are you having any problems catching waves with that board?
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
