Tiny crack on new board

Postby Aggo » Thu Feb 11, 2016 12:35 am

Hey there,

I bought a brand new board the other day. Just after I bought it I realised that there is a tiny crack in the surface exactly where the traction pad is going to be. Now I am wondering if I should try to fix it somehow (already tried that --> very difficult) or if I should just put the pad on top. I'm really afraid that water might get in.
I attached a picture of it.

Thanks in advance

Cheers!

Put your lips to it and suck on it. If you feel air go through fix it, if you don;t it might just be a spider crack

Difficult to fix, How come?
How did you try to fix it?????
Simply sand lightly a little way around the ding put on a smear of solar resin smooth in and then go out into the sun let the sun set it.
Place pad on all good :D

Thanks for your anwers guys!
When I suck on it I can't tell if it is air coming from the ding or through the corners of my mouth
That's how I tried it but since the crack is extremely small and due to the high viscosity of the resin, the crack doesn't fill with it but the resin just sits on top of it. When I sand it after repairing it's just like before again.
I might try it again and maybe press the resin in the crack with my finger or so..
Just want to take it in the water finally :D

There is solar resin with with glass fibre in it and it is more like a gel. Look for that.
Slightly sand a little deep into the crack. so there is some roughness for the gel to grip!
If it is water tight then just apply the traction pad. The ding looks pretty minute so just even the hardened dab of resin under the pad won't be a problem if it is a little raised, just a larger area of sanded existing glass so the blob of resin can seal past the crack, the thinner it is applied the more likely it is to crack off when surfing !
