There's concave plastic on the bottom of the board, but nowhere else. As far as regrets go, I've broken boards before. C'est la vie. I think I pushed this board too hard and took it into waves it really shouldn't have been in. That first six foot wave I took off on when I got the crease was a closeout pounder that probably broke the stringers. The waves I was paddling through today were also big and nasty. I'm just glad the two halves stayed connected to the bottom plastic so I could ride the board in instead of having to swim. So it goes.

My board has a deck plastic layer. Quite similar to the bottom one. Just thought Greco should have the same.

Yeah, that definitely sounds like a better design- especially for newbies who want to venture out into more challenging surf. Well, I guess if somebody is considering a softboard they can glean some info from this thread. I think it's a good time to pick up softboards on Craigslist right now. It's winter and all the people from the summer who decided they just weren't into surfing are probably looking to ditch those boards for cheap.

Got confused because of the description in pic.

As for Wavestorm, Costco still has a better deal. 100 and perpetual exchange policy. You may break as many as you want and get a new one! And you can always sell a brand new one for 100 or with a little discount. So, the board safety issues would not stop you daring bigger waves. Although your own safety concerns probably should:)

40 dollar board could be internally damaged or overexposed to the sun!

Yeah, the Costco Wavestorm is seasonal so you have to get them when they're around. I think Costco is onto the lifetime warranty game as well. I don't really want to abuse that. I'm a Costco fan. They treat their workers better than most corporations from what I understand. Anyway, my $40 Wavestorm worked like a charm today. I had a blast riding small rebreaks. I stayed away from the 6-8 footers outside. I realize that foamies are actually a bit unsafe in large swells. The waves outside were mostly closed out anyway.
