Removing A Traction Pad

Hey guys i just picked up my JC 6'3 and I'm wondering if it is possible to strip off the traction pad, somehow take off all of the glue/sticky material, and make it smoothe enough to replace it with different traction, Thanks guys

Tried it once, not successful. Everything from toxic free cleaners to just a hint of thinner mixed with water, it's a biatch to remove. I gave up half way through, now I've got a board now looks like shite because of it, but I gave it to my nephew to learn on so it's going to good use.

I'd be curious to find out if others out there have done it successfully.

I used WD40 to get mine off, took fleshin ages though !

Taking your traction pad off is easy. Rip the pad up (2min job) and then use a tiny amount of Sticky Bumps Wax remover to get the glue and bits off. It takes like 5min.
The sticky bumps wax remover is killer. It comes in a tube like the rip curl piss off, and it cleans your board up amazingly. Makes it look brand new!
BUT.. im pretty sure you can only buy it in USA. I had a friend of mine bring some back from america for me

sweet I have wax-x which is made by sexwax and it does a great job cleaning the boards up, thanks laguna

No problem. I had to do it recently and it worked great. Got the board completely clean and was easy to stick a new pad on.

If you are going to put a new pad on, make sure that you get all the glue and dirt off the board and that its completely clean. Then maybe wash it with water just to make sure its not greasy from the remover. Once its all clean and dry then it should be good to stick a new tailpad on

It also work for cleaning your traction pad if it gets dirty. I also heared that the 'surf pickle' is great for removing the crap off your board.

i ALWAYS use "surf pickle" - that is some Great stuff!

Heat up the pad with a hairdryer. It will melt the glue a little and you should be able to peel it off piece by piece. To get rid of the sticky bits of glue you can use a wax remover & a wax comb. Be careful with the hairdryer though, don't wnat to de-lam your board !

Forget the extra xxxxx, Goo Gone itself is enough. I've peeled one off and cleaned off the sticky crap with that and a rag. Clean it off after that with water because Goo Gone is pretty oily.
I never use a pad now. I hate them... (see Mason Ho) You don't need it.

I took one off a board recently...a website recommended paint thinner so I did that and it came out great. Just a little scraping with the wax comb back edge and it was clean in a couple of minutes (used a towel dipped in the thinner after scraping). The guys at the ding repair use petrol. Works for them.

Just took off another one....thinner and a box cutter like they were doing at the shop....completely clean in ten min.
