Fin size

Postby AKLsurfer » Thu Mar 06, 2014 6:30 am

Hey. I'm looking for some new fins but doubting about the size since my weight (65kg / 145 lbs) is just in between the FCS small fins and medium fins. Wondering if someone here is in the same situation and has experimented a little with both sizes. Would love to hear some experiences / advice on how different size fins influences different boards in different conditions.

The fins I'm considering are the small PC-3 or the medium PC-5 (or medium K2.1). But other suggestions are appreciated.

Would use the fins in 1ft to slightly overhead waves on boards with either low or medium rocker. For larger steep waves I use the medium to large Mayhem fins, but those make my small wave board to stiff.

]Hi AKL,

I can't help you out as I haven't played about much with my fin set-up yet, however everything you could want to know about fins can be found here: https://surfing-waves.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16523

Depends as much on board size and shape as it does on your size. Bigger fins for wider thicker not so foiled boards hold you into the wave but create drag giving you something to push and pump off of in small surf. Small fins create less drag and might be quicker to paddle and easier to catch waves with but will cause a large or wide floaty board with full rails to slide out.

This is generalized but a rule that a lot follow.
