Where to buy a wetsuit (somewhere in Newquay maybe)

Postby Duke Blackfist » Tue Jun 07, 2005 12:58 pm

I bought my first board (a 7'4" Kamikaze mini-mal) a few weeks ago and I'm just getting around to thinking about a wetsuit. I'm heading to Newquay this weekend for a wedding and hopefully will get a chance to get in the water at least one day.

Can anyone recommend a decent surf shop for wetsuits, in, around or between St. Austell and Newquay? I think internet shopping's great, and I know I'd probably get a better deal if I hunted around online, but I'd like to be able to go into a shop and try some suits on and ask some questions and get honest answers.

Also, does anyone have any experience with those soft surfboard slings for securing boards on top of your car without an actual roof rack? A bit like this: http://www.fistralsurf.com/index.cfm?co ... =4&start=1
Are they safe for speedy motorway driving?

Almost every other shop from St Austell to Newquay is a surf shop so you'll be spoiled for choice.

Around this time of year you will probably get some really good deals on winter suits - FSC often sell off their winter suits - they had body glove suits at 1/2 price last year.

If you're looking for something cheaper but good, look at Gul/ Sola/ Snugg suits.

I think it's worth going for a 4:3 in this country anyway - I've always had a 3:2 and it gets nippy between Oct and April which cuts out almost 1/2 the year!!

I've got a hideous old 3mm Blue and Peach Sola suit which you can have for a fiver!!!

FSC also do the Salomon S-Core suits which are really cool and very very warm.

As for roofracks, I had an inflatable one which I bought from cooksons.com - don't know if they still do them.

The problem with all of these is that they WILL scratch the paint on your roof!! If you're looking for cheap racks, check e-bay I got a pair for my Avensis for £15 instead of £75 minimum anywhere else!!

Cheers
