skimboard to bodyboard

Postby pootle77 » Sat May 11, 2013 3:49 pm

Hello, ok a little background first. I'm doing a year long challenge for charity where I do 52 new things. Included in the list is surfing, skimboarding and bodyboarding. Each time I do a "new thing" I record footage using a GoPro. Well this week was skimboarding. I purchased a beginner friendly eva skimboard and attached a surf mount to the front...kind of thinking I would continue to skimboard after the taster so attaching the mount wouldn't be a waste. However, I sucked !! Not just a bit, A LOT !! It seems balance and me don't work. The night ended in a&e with a fractured big toe. Won't be trying that again. Now though I'm left with a skimboard and a mount. My question is, rather than buying a bodyboard and another mount..is there any way I could turn the skimboard into a bodyboard ? Its the right size, but needs more buoyancy I think. Is there anything I could do to convert it ? Thanks in advance

I've never heard of it. But I guess my imagination is nowhere near that of some of the manufacture think tanks.

If you google you will be able to find videos of people surfing on skimboards (like actually standing and going along a wave etc). So if they can surf, you probably can body board as you need less flotation to bodyboard than to surf. But you will likely need a fairly powerful wave -not necessarily too big but not small and mushy. So just give that a go.

As to adding flotation - might be hard. All I can think of is gluing the skimboard to a bodyboard (bodyboard underneath) or putting 1/2 bodyboard (or just some foam) on the top. Will ruin both boards forever though.

I am not sure how well a go pro mount will go on a bodyboard - the foam might be too soft; and having camera right under your chin sounds like a bad idea to me
