future fin box repair

Just picked this board up and noticed that the fin box has been damaged. Its as if they were very abrasive when removing the fin and ended up pushing the back of the box into the foam cracking the glass and separating it. I do not want to "fill in" the gap. what is the best way of doing this repair at home? I have glass and what not but should removing the whole fin box from the board be an option? Help me out, Id love to surf this board in two days.......

im not a pro at repairing, but i would completely remove the fin box, and then re-glass it. that way it will be level, and solid. if you try to pull the box up and glass it, chances are with a small knock, it will sink back in again. try some cotton wool with glass under the box to push it up so its level as no doubt the foam will have been compressed. put some pics up of your repair. would be good for people to see it.

Get a professional to put in a new fin box.

I agree with drowningbitbybit,
You want the box to be set in by a professional and if your box has been damaged its best to just have a new box put in. You do not want to have repairs done only later to find out the box has hairline internal cracks that could allow water to leak into the inside of your board and damage the foam. The fin boxes are not very expensive. Mostly you pay for the labor.

the rate i paid to have a fin plud put in was £25 an hour and it took 1.5 hours. it was pretty , messy. i had the centre fin caught in a sand bank. but they did a very good job. its worth a pro doing it.
