Board question (forum noob)

Hiya,

I know its a question that is asked loads, and I have been doing lots of research on the internet & searched the forum....BUT...

Im looking at getting my first shortboard (or mini), Im 6ft and around 180pounds and just wondered what people would recommended?

Main surfing spots are in the Algarve, Hossegar/ Biarritz area & Newquay, I have been bodyboarding (I know its a sin haha!) for 10 years and started surfing around 4 years ago and feel its time to commit and buy my first board.

I can't really give much solid advice but i found that talking to a local shaper helps a ton. I just ordered a new board but i barely even know what I'm getting because i just kinda told the shaper to shape what he thinks is best for me (also the reason why i said i can't give much advice) They generally have a ton of knowledge and are often willing to give it out. Try hunt one down if you don't get too many responses here.

why not get a board like the one you have used the most during the last 4 years of surfing? That ought to be a known quantity.

all depending on how confident you are with a sufboard
hardboard or a soft board, long or shortboard
i am about the same as you and i have a 6'7 shortboard epoxy shortboard which is amazing!

Reason I posted is because I want to start shortboarding instead of the 8+ boards Ive been using, just after advice & reccomendtations
