Surfing Ride

Postby blizzard944 » Wed Feb 23, 2011 9:53 am

Hey everyone!

I just sold my car and am looking for a new one. I had a Mazda 3 and my 8 foot minimal barely squeezed into the cab with the seats down. I tried strapping it down but had noise issues + nearly lost the board once. I live in Melbourne and head to the surf coast at least once a week. 110km/h for an hour drive doesn't do my straps any good, plus they are so noisy its a joke. Anyway thats gone and i'm looking for a new car. I want something around the $8k or $9k mark.

So what do you guys drive? Should I go for a station wagon? I was looking at a BA Falcon Wagon. Does anyone have one? Any other ideas for a car which would suit a city-surfer i.e. someone who has to drive to the beach often? Or do any of you guys have sedans? Whats a good surfy car which isnt too expensive?

Thanks!

If i were you, i would get a toyota tacoma. They're cheap, good gas mileage, and you can easily throw your board(s) in the bed.

i drive a vw passat, decent gas milage and i can fit a big board inside if i fold the seats down. a truck would be convieniant but its always sketchy leaving your board out in the open for anyone to mess with.

heyyy another melbourne surfer!! 110 to the breaks?? I dont know what roads you're on but I'm sure you're speeding :P haha well don't we all, worst thing living so far from the beach, you got to..
defs a station wagon always goes down well for us, can fit a stack of boards including the mal. got a mazda 3 hatchback as well which goes alright with installed roof racks. don't like taking it down though- not a very comfortable car, not a surfy car either
I'd recommend a holden wagon, or you can get some decent smaller cars with racks- a mate drives a peugot and thats goes fine. or you could go all out and buy the full decked out kombi like the longboarders down torquay- fantastic :)
the ba falcon wagon should go down fine, should be decent, so long as it doesnt guzzle fuel.. tends to be an expensive outing otherwise :/
good to see you on the forum, blizzard, let us know what you get

if you're in Aus then look for a Mitsubishi Delica - been driving one for years and it's an awesome wagon.
I easily fit a couple of Surf kayaks in the back and can still sleep in it. We have to get them imported from Japan over here in the Uk, I think you can get them direct over there?
