Billabong SG5 a waste of £250

Postby samyan » Thu Sep 16, 2010 9:43 pm

Hi

I purchased the Billabong SG5 5/4/3 neck entry last weekend 4th September as my new winter suit. Great you might think, and so did I..... then I got in the water.

The first wave that washed over me as I was walking out went straight down my neck, not a good start. I ended up with water going down my front as well and wasn't even duck diving as the surf was 1 - 2 ft. I was really dissapointed as it was very comfortable, flexible and amazingly bouyant (and it looked cool)

Within 24 hours I took it back to Shore Watersports in East Wittering and told them what had happened. To save a long story they basically said "tuff luck, there's no obvious fault so we can't do anything". My argument was that it's not fit for purpose and that eventually every suit will leak a bit but not on the first outing. I also e-mailed Billabong Europe and they haven't got back to me and I don't know what to do now as I can find no more contact details for them!

Since then I have been out at Sennen in some more powerfull waves and have had water forced up the sleeves and ankles and also the sleeve rolled itself up an inch or so.............. this is on top of the front and back flushing. :? I was going to buy the O'Neil Mutant from Shore but was advised that it wasn't that good!!!!!!!!

Now I'm stuck with a £250 winter wetsuit that looks great but doesn't even keep me warm in Autumn Cornish seas for long.

Has anyone else had any probs with their SG5 or know what I can do about it? :?:

For info I bought the small and I am 5'8" and roughly 10 stone.

Cheers
Sam

Hey Sam, my advice is purposely unravel a few seams and e-mail billabong europe again saying the seams have unravelled since your last e-mail (don't mention the water flushing thing though as they could just say you bought the wrong sized suit!). I had problems with my platinum x 4/3. The seams went, the liquid seam seal went, the neoprene disintegrated! to name a few problems but to be fair to billabong when I e-mailed them they told me to send suit to them and within 5 weeks I had a new suit which I promptly sold on ebay and bought the o'neill mutant which I've been wearing since april, surfing 3-4 times a week and it's still going strong! As for the surf shop you bought it from :yearght: , avoid as they obviously just pushed a suit onto you that they couldn't shift and their customer service sounds rubbish, they should've at least offered you another suit to try! Here's Billabong's contact details, if you don't get any joy e-mailing phone them and send letters (hassle them)!

Billabong GSM-Europe

Hope this helps

Thanks Tom. Definately wishing I had gone for the Mutant as I have a 3/2 Psyco 2 and love it.

sam, a mate of mine recentley bought the mutant and has been very unimpressed with it.
I have just got the sg5 and tried the neck entry and back zip version before buying the back zip one. I think the neck entry one could do with some way of adjusting the neck seal as it seemed to gape a bit when i bent my head forward ( as i would to duck dive ) I would approach billabong about exchanging it for the back zip one if I were you. I'm sure if approached properly this will not be a problem.
good luck
