Looking for some advice on w/my next board

Postby ringemaster » Thu Oct 22, 2009 9:28 pm

Hey all - this is my first post. I figured I've been surfing long enough its time to join a community - and I busted my shortboard this morning so I want some advice on a new one.

I'm right around 200lbs wondering what other people in my weight range ride, and how long have you been surfing? I'm in my 3rd year, My boards are...

6'4''x20.5""x2 3/8" Xandu Pig2 12.75" nose (flat deck)
6'3''x20.5"x2 3/4" WRV rocket fish, tappered rails 14"nose
6'0''X21"x2 9/16" Canyon retro fish, flat deck, 16" nose and tail.

I've been riding a John Carper Equalizer (7'4") for the last year (was on a 9'4" longboard before that). I'm ready for a shorter board since I want to do things I can't seem to get my board to do, but like the width and feel of my current board since I'm a big guy (6'4" 200 lbs.). I've tried a few shorter boards in the 6'4" range, but they seem a tad too short. Right now I'm thinking something in the 6'8" - 6'10" range would be a good upgrade (although I'd like to get down to the 6'4" - 6'6" range in the long run).

Given that my current board is pretty wide with a hawaiian rocker (per the John Carper website), what would you guys suggest? If its a new board, I'd wanna cap my budget at $750. Used I'd be willing to get to $500 depending on the board.
