Driving with board

Postby twangg » Thu Feb 28, 2008 5:37 am

Hey guys I just bought a roof rack and I'm driving down to SC for spring break.. I was wondering, whats the best way to transfer the board? Frontward or backwards, with or without fins, and should I not go over a maximum speed? Should I strap it on with the bag on it? I would appreciate some advice and tips, thanks guys.

Speaking of SC, i heard the waves down there are small. Which is good for me, I'm just starting this stuff so I'm relieved to hear that it will be easier for me. Anyone familiar with the Myrtle Beach area?

Definetly I m not an expert on roof rack, but you should strap it on with the bag on it, and take out the fins just in case.

Fin side up in a bag ideally (bag helps stop pressure dings and stones cracking glass.
Doesn't really matter if its pointing froward or backwards.

yeah i figured it would be better to take off the fins just in case... like i said im driving far so im gonna be booking if i can. if im going 75-80 will that harm the board by putting too much pressure on it?

nah, board will be fine to a high speed, doesn't matter too much with fins (just make sure the bag closes properly with the fins in it)

Yeah, just tie it good and tight so it doesn't move very much. Leave it in the bag & fins on, more of a hassle taking them off & on when you don't need to. Drive as fast as you like...as long as its tied on properly!! I always point my forwards (fins at rear of car) if that helps!

BTW - Put some foam/pipe insulators round the roof bars. helps cushon it a bit.
