Seems the site has been up and down all day - and hasnt been there at all for the last couple of hours. Whats all that about? Is it the new host?

And even when it is working, it seems quite a lot slower than the old one :?

What with no SW, I had to do some work this afternoon instead....

I am hoping this is just teething problems. Everything should be good from now on.
There was a major issue yesterday with the host and all their sites were down for over two hours.
If this new host is not cutting it then I will have to change again.

Please keep the feedback coming as I cannot monitor the site 24/7.
If you are having problems post here with a time / day.

Good. I did not have any problems yesterday so it is good to hear.

Sorry to hear that. Not sure why that would still be a problem. I had to register new nameservers which should only have taken 72 hours to update so there should no longer be an DNS problems. Besides, a DNS server that still has the old nameservers in the cache should just send traffic to the old server which is still up and running. </end techie talk>

Please keep posting forum performance problems here. If you can include the time you tried and your location that would be great.

Thanks
SP

This is a situation that we really must ensure does not happen again!

I think this has been the major issue and I have been speaking to a tech guy from the new company. I couldnt find the site this morning and contacted him. He went off to check the site and said all was ok - there did not seem to be a problem.
He found a couple of little things that he was going to 'tweak' to make thing a little smoother. Ok I though.
I got them to do a change so image uploads would work and during him doing this he got the "www.surfing-waves.com cannot be found" error and had another look.
He found and fixed something to do with 'internal resolvers' (I dont know what they are) and that this site not found type error should be a thing of the past.
We shall see but hopefully things will get back to normal.

This will probably not speed anything up but I checked response times today and they seem ~20% better than when I checked yesterday - the times were almost identical to the old server. Good news.

Speed is an important issue and if the new host is having problems with the speed of the forum then I'll look at possibly changing over to new forum software. (maybe vbulletin - just for you Oslo  )

Keep feedback coming.

Time
the forum takes its time from the server and the server time seems stuck African time for some reason.
I will see if I can get it changed.

Mine was 6 hours and 20 minutes ahead of actual UK time. Have changed it to GMT-6 to get a rough idea of the time, bloody thing was confusing the hell outta me.

SP... any idea why I cant access the site from my favourites? Ive got SW on my bookmark bar, click on it and it comes up with the 'cant load page' crap. If I type the addy in, it comes up (not always first time). Address in bookmark bar is exactly what I end up typing in :?

Jen - no idea at all.
Try deleting it from your favorites and then re adding it.
Does everyone use favorites to come to the site?

I have been gathering info with the help of el_timmo on a late night and have been back to the hosting company. Turns out they have a network problems with their supplier which is causing problems. They are dealing with it and will let me know when it is resolved.
Light at the end of the tunnel  (I can only hope)
