Unauthorized use of my picture

I have randomly googled for the picture of a "peeling wave" and found out that surfing-waves.com used the following picture:
https://surfing-waves.com/data/datas ... b4a2dc.jpg

which I have taken at Ulus without ever noticing me on the info page about indonesia
https://surfing-waves.com/atlas/asia/indonesia.html

You could at least have asked before just taking someones pictures and putting them on your webpage without any source or anything :|

is that how things are done? :yearght:

Yeah Rico Photo credits would be nice , I am wondering whether you included more than just "Rico" with the two shots you uploaded of Uluwatu.
Nice shots, did you take them or did one of the Warung guys, wondered if that was you on the wave or shooting.

Personally any shots I put up on a third party web site I figure I've just set free into the public domain. My saleable shots I keep to my catalogue.
I looked through the site and couldn't see policy in regard to posted photos.
Maybe Surf Patrol can enlighten us :?:

Firstly, apologies Rico. That image should have been attributed to you when it was added to the article. This has now done this.
The images were added to the Uluwatu surf spot information page, and were added attributed to you on the surf gallery pages:
https://surfing-waves.com/waves/pic2 ... u-view.htm
https://surfing-waves.com/waves/pic2855_ulluwatu.htm

Where user generated content, images or video posted to the site is re-used elsewhere on the site, (such as the Indonesia article) it is normal practice to acknowledge the source.
You can see this on the Indonesia page for Jaffa's Indo tips, where the article links back to his original post.
You can also see the image sources attributed on a couple of example pages:
https://surfing-waves.com/surf-fitne ... -downs.htm
https://surfing-waves.com/news/story ... asters.htm

This was not done for your image on the Indonesia atlas page, and it should have been. This is my mistake and once again I apologise.

The policy on uploaded content was previously specified on the terms of service, but having looked I could not find it. I'm unsure when it was removed, but this information should definately be there. It seems to have gone missing at some point. I will update the TOS to make the policy clear.

This site's policy is that by posting on Surfing Waves you grant a soft licence to use your content. This allows us to freely use the content on the site. The copyright of any content remains with the original poster (as long as they actually own the copyright).
Sources should be attributed where content is used at all times.
Images / content can be removed at the request of the copyright holder.

It's common courtesy that the owner should be asked if it's ok to use their content elsewhere. This is done when using external content, and should really be done when re-using internal user generated content. I will be doing this in future.

I hope that clears things up Rico. If you'd like your images removed from the main site I am happy to do so.

Thanks for your answer patrol, it is absolutely no problem for you to use the pictures - as long as you make sure that whoever took it is ok with it - it's just a bit weird to google up your own images on someones website. I am not really interested in policies and copyrights, after all, why wouldn't I provide pictures for a website that provides info for fellow surfers.

I am in Europe right now but when I'm back in Aus and can access my external I will look for those and similar pictures in higher resolution - if I can remember after 2 weeks and that crappy flight.

jaffa, I took them in August 2010, the surfer on it is just someone I don't know who's having a good time

cheers

I'm glad you are happy with that. I did take them straight from your post at viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4876&p=141164#p141164 and should have paid more attention when I updated the article.
Those images show up for other image searches -> here they are for a different search, which shows them from where you originally posted them.
